Sidequests pg4
This Saturday May 6th isn’t just Free Comic Book Day, it’s also the Curious Comic Con 2017 down/up/over in Nanaimo BC! I’ll be there with some lovely available-only-in-dead-tree-form books like Trolls and The Corpse Door (4! The final version!) along with titles you may recognize like Nameless and Blood in Their Mouths (a small collection of short horror stories). Come check it out if you’re in the area – it’s free and filled with great comics!
This is the old, first version of this tale. I’ve now done four versions (the 2nd one is longer with better artwork, the 3rd one has better-better artwork, different panels and is slightly animated in a black humour fashion, and the forth one is AWESOME on all fronts, and is only available in print; it still features viking zombies, but there’s some big changes in it!)
This comic kind of defined my entrance into comics. I made it as a challenge to myself, and submitted it to Gurukitty’s Ghost Tales Comic Anthology. It got in (woohoo) and then every few years or so I would go back to it and redo it. I’m finally happen with version #4, which will go online maybe in 2018? (You can get it in print now if you so wish.) Until then, please enjoy version 1. And 2. And 3.

At the last minute I decided I wanted something new for TCAF and VanCAF 2016 – and thus Trolls was born!

Trolls Page 2
I did a lot of research on trolls and was inspired by a lot of great depictions out there – including the works of John Bauer and Theodor Kittelsen, and the movies ‘Beowulf and Grendel’ and ‘Trollhunter.’
Trolls Page 3
This page (and a few others) could maybe be considered NSFW? I guess that all depends on if you consider trolls to be closer-to-humans than ape-like-creatures and then consider humanoid nonsexualized ‘nudity’ as offensive?

Are jǫtunn trolls? Giants? Giant trolls? Completely separate in their own category? According to Tatterhood, “yes.”

There’s considerable comparisons and overlap with different creatures from different areas – and since Tatterhood has done a lot of travelling, she’s seen a lot of the similar ones. So while these are what she has named the ‘trolls’ she’s encountered, you may call them something different!

I just had to create a page featuring other creatures for the excuse to draw a friggen giant Nordic snake!
