Growing out of a love of swords, sorcery and sandaled barbarians as well as\u00a0a lifelong struggle\u00a0with anxiety and depression,\u00a0By Crom!<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0tribute not just to Robert E. Howard’s hero, but to everyone who could use a brave, practical and stoic inner voice to guide\u00a0them through life’s\u00a0rough spots.<\/p>\n

In By Crom!<\/strong>, the barbarian adviser comes along for dog walks, doctor’s visits, school days and self-pity days, armed with\u00a0his sword and his\u00a0anachronistic\u00a0perspective\u00a0on modern life and modern\u00a0problems.<\/p>\n

By Crom!<\/strong>\u00a0is a\u00a0joke-a-panel webcomic, and it was\u00a0published approximately weekly\u00a0on Tuesdays from\u00a0January, 2012 until May 2014. It began its life on bycrom.tumblr.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By Crom! was initially printed in two small-run volumes, both of which are now sold out in print. You can buy the new all-in-one volume from Shel Kahn in their store.<\/a><\/h3>\n

\"Collected
\nThe Collected By Crom!\u00a0<\/strong>is out of print. It presented all the black and white comics, as well as a paper doll, five behind the scenes pinups, two fan pinups (by cartoonist\u00a0Adam Gorham<\/a>), an eight-page longform comic and an eloquent foreword by\u00a0Diana Poulsen<\/a>, it’s got a lot of barbarian-themed advice.\u00a0It was printed in July 2013, in Ontario,\u00a0Canada, and reprinted in April 2014 in Quebec, Canada.<\/p>\n

Full Colour Cromulence<\/strong>\u00a0is also out of print.\u00a0It presented all the colour comics, nine comics featuring guest spirit guides from Gillian Blekkenhorst<\/a>, Trevor Henderson<\/a>, Matt Rapati<\/a>, Kris Sayer<\/a>, Jen Schollen<\/a>, Matt Smith<\/a>, Mary Verhoeven<\/a>, and Jenn Woodall<\/a>; another paper doll, and an eloquent foreword by\u00a0the talented Natalie Walschots<\/a>.\u00a0It was printed in April 2014, in Quebec, Canada.<\/p>\n

“Throughout the series, Comic Rachel deals with mental illness, the death of her beloved dog (it\u2019s beautiful, and I cried), identity crises, careers, and bra shopping. It sounds intense, and it is, but with the stoic barbarianism of Crom, there\u2019s a hilarity in the refreshing lack of sentimentality. This same lack of sentimentality only gets better when later in the collection, Crom shows up awash in watercolors.”<\/em><\/p>\n
